In our final service before Christmas Day, we listened to carols, and a sermon based on Luke 2:1-20.
When Jesus was born, the angels appeared to the shepherds, not to dignitaries or ‘important’ people, and they were the first to visit the baby Jesus.
The gospel means ‘good news’ and that’s exactly what the birth of Jesus announced.
When the magi visited later, they were dignified men, who commanded respect and held authority.
Yet, when confronted with Jesus, they were overjoyed and bowed down in worship.
Whether the shepherds or the wise men, the response was the same.
What is our reaction today when confronted with Jesus? Are we like the shepherds and the magi who were drawn? Or we do carry on as before in our own world?
